Another Success Story for Care Plus Group - Sam Dobson's achievement
Sam has finally achieved his ultimate goal by gaining an apprenticeship within Care Plus Hope Specialist Services as an Apprentice Rehabilitation Assistant, following his voluntary placement through Employability Services – Supported Employment.
Whilst on placement Sam was able to demonstrate many of the skills and abilities needed to undertake a Rehabilitation Assistant’s role. Due to Sam’s Cerebral Palsy, Hope Specialist Services job carved the Rehabilitation Assistant job description to utilise Sam’s strengths and abilities within the workplace; whilst meeting the Adult Care Worker apprenticeship standards.
Norma Yarborough: Supported Employment Team Leader explained “Job carving is about redesigning an existing job description around the needs of an individual employee with a specific disability or creating a new role. Job carving is an excellent tool that meets the needs of both the employer and employee, allowing employers to create a diverse and enriched workforce”.
Job carving allowed Sam to succeed in gaining employment within his dream job. Sam said “My placement enabled me to work towards my goal of gaining an apprenticeship and I can’t believe it has happened, I am so happy! I never thought I would have been given this opportunity but it shows that if you work hard it does pay off.”
